Unleashing the Power of Netball in Vilamoura: My Journey to Starting a Netball Club

In September 2023, I embarked on a new chapter of life, moving to the beautiful Algarve with my four kids. As an advocate of sports, I've always believed in the transformative power of physical activity, especially for children. Sports, in my view, isn't just about staying fit; it's a powerful tool for building resilience, teamwork, a strong work ethic, and the understanding that putting in extra effort can lead to remarkable improvements—all while having a blast.

My two daughters, who are avid netball enthusiasts, had played for their school team back in the UK. However, upon settling in Vilamoura, we faced a significant hurdle—the closest netball team was an hour away! This was a moment of realisation for me, a catalyst that ignited the spark to bring netball closer to home.

And so, the journey of founding the Vipers Netball Club began.

The Simple Motivation: "Why not bring this amazing, fast-paced game to us?" That simple question became the driving force behind starting the club. Vilamoura deserved its own netball community, a place where enthusiasts of all ages could come together to embrace the sport they love.

Empowering Girls and Young Women: My hope is to inspire other girls and young women in the community to take up netball. It's not just about playing a game; it's about fostering a sense of camaraderie, discipline, and the joy of achievement. Netball has the potential to be a force for positive change in the lives of those who embrace it.

Bringing Netball to Portuguese Schools: Beyond our club, I dream of contributing to a broader vision—making netball a staple in Portuguese schools.
